Crazy Jade in Blossom

Ever since Jade bestowed her elegant Jade plant upon me, the poor plant hasn't been having a good time on my window sill. In my hands, it grows out of control. And finally, today I found out what has been going on: it's blooming!

Dear Jade, I'm sorry that your Jade plant looks like this now:

My 7-year-old Donkey Tail surprised me this summer. This plant can actually bloom!

Radar and Beer

Well, apparently Radar doesn't like beer. He was very hesitant when introduced to some oh-I-don't-know-what-brand beer: he tasted a little bit very cautiously, and then waited for 5 minutes. When convinced he was not going to get anything else, he tasted the beer again. Then another 5-minute's wait. Eventually he finished it.

In contrast, he loved vodka/tonic water. He gulped this mix just like he drank water.

So our conclusion was: dogs don't like beer; they like vodka.

Just when we felt good about our new scientific discovery, V found this article in THE ONION:

Unemployed Scientists Prove Dog Likes Beer

What the XXXX is going on!

V's comment: these guys are working on our project (with opposite results), they
even plan to test Andy's idea at the very end... we have to publish before we get scooped!

Guinness

I'm not a beer drinker, so when Mac Daddy D told me he named his new dog Guinness it didn't ring a bell. Today I told V and L about D&H's new addition. They both started laughing, "What? He named his dog after the beer?"

Apparently Guinness fits very well with his name: he's a doberman/shepherd mix with a black coat mixed with tan above his eyes, around his muzzle, under his chest, and on his legs. Guinness the beer is dark colored with tan foam on top.

Now I really like the name and the dog and admire D for his cleverness and passion for beers.

Great Blue Heron

According to our resident bird expert A, this one is a Great Blue Heron. It is a large bird, very elegant, yet stealthy. A good fisher, he caught two fishes in the 20 minutes I watched him.

The bird was so still that I thought it was a sculpture, until it moved ever so slowly and then so fast to catch a gold fish:
and flew to the other end of the lake with his catch:

Window Art

The Artist

Artist at Work

You Calling Me?

The fact is, Radar is not going to start a blog any time soon. But he sure is showing his artistic talent to the whole world through this window! See how the smudges are somehow organized and related to each other!

The World Out of the Window

It's fascinating...

Radar's got a thing for chairs these days. He is very good at climbing them. Today he learned to put his front paws on the back of the chair. He stayed up there for more than 5 minutes. Long enough for me to get my camera out for this shot.

Ruby And Radar

Ruby and Radar had a great time together on May 11, 2006. Both were 5 months old then.

Ruby: Radar, let's play!

Ruby: Radar, don't just stand there. Let's play!

Radar: Are you tired already? Mmm, the dirt in my mouth is yummy!

Radar: Are you getting better?

More Birds

We have a bird expert here! Thank you, Anonymous! I'm posting more bird pictures. I saw them last May 14 at Mount Auburn Cemetery. In fact, it is a great place for bird watching. I bumped into a group of bird-watchers on a small hill, with their high-power binoculars and super telephoto lenses. My telephoto at the longest end can not product crisp sharp pictures. So here are the somewhat blurry pictures of three (different) birds. What are they?

Radar and Daffodils

Spring is really here!
Puppy Radar is enjoying sniffing daffodils.

This afternoon Radar took out two dog-walkers, including one with heavy camera gear, for a walk on campus to enjoy spring (the dog-walkers think so). He broadened his fan club (as always), and also made friends with three other dogs (one of them is also named Radar). But towards the end, an over-excited Radar dashed towards a toddler in a stroller before his walkers could catch him, and jumped and kissed the scared and crying toddler. His dog-walkers reached him only after he had expressed his affection towards the kid by planting a dirty spot on his forehead. The kid stopped crying shortly after being comforted by several adults, including Radar's two guilty, incompetent walkers.

Radar posed with the flowers as a way to show his sincere apology for jumping at the kid.
